Researching an audio snippet on my hard drive today ("Oh, Brian Jones / Jajouka very stoned") led me to this good essay by Philip Schuyler on the Master Musicians of Jojouka phenomenon.  Using his own field work, Schuyler separates fact from fiction in the many anecdotes floating around about the M. M. of J. to piece together a thoughtful and entertaining story about music and politics.
