Today I’m trying to fix a problem with my Oberheim 4-voice.  Some horrible intermittent hissing/popping noise is coming from the filter on one of the voices.  I have the schematics, but there’s no PCB diagram to help me find the various points on the circuit board so the going is a bit slow.  I decided that I needed a signal tracer to track down the source of the noise.  I don’t have a signal tracer and don’t really want to buy one.  So I looked around the studio for a high-impedance, battery-powered amp.  Found one!  This old Playskool recorder has been a veteran of various parties where audio documentation seemed like a fun thing.  Now it’s going to help me fix my synth, I hope.
